A stray cat in Burrillville has tested positive for rabies after biting a person in the area of Whipple Road, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health. The cat reportedly tested positive for rabies on May 22. It had bitten a person two days prior, and was found under a homeowner's deck. RIDOH says the person who was bitten by the cat has begun treatment, and that anyone else who has had direct contact with the cat should call their Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 401-222-2577. Multiple animals have tested positive for rabies in northern Rhode Island so far this spring.
